Be sure to water the pool before frost!
Common mistakes made when winterising pools: leaving the wrong water level in the pool or emptying the pool completely!
We have prepared a simple step-by-step description of how to winterise a pool.
Step one.
Clean the pool: vacuum the pool floor with a pool vacuum cleaner. This can be done with either a handheld vacuum cleaner or a robot. This step can also be skipped, as the pool also breaks down in winter and a general cleaning of the pool is usually carried out when the pool is winterised.
Step 2.
Lower the water level in the pool and rinse the quartz sand filter at this point. The level of water lowering depends on the type of basin. The most important thing to note is that the water is lowered 10-15 cm below the edge of the skimmer and overflow basin. If the pool inlet nozzles are about 50-60 cm below the water level, the water level must be lowered 10 cm below the inlet nozzles. The water supply nozzles must be cleaned of water by vacuuming or blowing out with a compressor.
Once this step is done, salt is added to the nozzles, screwed in with the special plug and the water level is raised back to 10-15 cm below the edge of the skimmer or overflow water. For the skimmer basin, salt is poured into the skimmer after the pipe has been drained and the special skimmer pontoon is screwed into the skimmer. For an overflow basin, it is important to seal the overflow manifolds with a rubber stopper to prevent water from entering the pipes.
Step 3.
Winterisation of other parts. The light elements shall be screwed out and lowered to the pool floor to prevent them from being crushed when the water freezes. Another option is to put a special pontoon in front of the light element.
The ladders and other elements, if any, shall also be shaved and highlighted. If the pool has an automatic cover, wrap it and leave it under the water. If the cover is not automatic, it is rolled up and wrapped with cling film. It is recommended to place the cover in a dry place for winterisation.
Step 4.
The pool is lined diagonally with pool pontoons to protect the pool from ice damage.
